Final Project Journal

May 22nd, 2018
I wrote out my plan for my project and started writing my journal. I also researched for my project and figured out what I wanted to make. I found the Youtube videos and links to help me and will hopefully find more on the way (as needed).
Link for the videos I found.
The only struggles I had today included adding the links in to my blog post, (the first three video links weren't apart of the play list originally, but then later on I found a playlist with them all and had to edit all of the links). That's the only problem I had but it wasn't really related, only annoying...

Today I ended up starting the basic coding for my 'PAC-MAN' character and created the blocks (of the sides of the maze) into solid blocks. I finished the design for my character and wanted to start doing character by character, rather than creating all designs then basic coding. It organizes my plan better in my head if I do it this way. Today I just used the first link for the stream of different tutorials.
The only problem I had was redesigning my character for its animation of when it moves. I had a problem because after spending quite sometimes on the actual design of the character and finishing every one of the slides for its animation, I realized that I hadn't made the canvas the right size and had to resize it. The resizing tool was easy enough to use, however, the struggle for me was to put the character in an area which would not cut off half the image when I cropped it. I was also putting the canvas size (32X32) in the wrong measurement box and kept having to try again (undo button is my best friend).
I have realized that the only change I will be making to my project goal time is the fact that I will not be designing my game in chunks such as (designing character, coding for movement, coding for gameplay, etc.); instead I will be organizing my game my chunks such as (character creating and coding, blocks creation and coding, ghosts creation and coding).
I was thinking about a final touch that I could add on to the end of my game and I think that I could just really focus on the animations of my character. For example, when the miner is hit by the gas cloud you could see him a cough and then faint and the game would restart. Haven't completely decided yet, however, I think that that would be a good idea to add on to my project.

Today I created the different 'spr_pill', 'spr_power_pill', 'spr_barrier'. I also created them into objects and set some as their parent objects, etc. I followed tutorial number 2 and didn't have any difficulties today. I took most of my time editing the graphics of my characters and animating them so that they look like they are moving. The miner now looks like he is walking wherever he is moving.
I also did barriers which block the path of te miner and he can't walk through walls, which helps create barriers for the game. I am finding it annoying however how the maker of the tutorials always starts off tutorials with new objects and only briefly shows what they are, not showing how he made them. I need more explanations, however so far I have been able to understand it myself and figure it out, (fill in the missing information.

Today I followed tutorial number 3 and I am starting to think that I might have to change my game. This game is getting way too complicated with the different sizes and I don't think I will be able to finish this game at the rate I am going. My biggest offset today was due to the sizing and the "tiles" which the tutorial used. At the beginning of every video the guy adds new things without showing the process and steps it took him to get there. Since I am still a beginner, I don't understand the things he is doing and therefore I am thinking I am in over my head. At home tonight I will start looking up different games I might be able to do and will begin writing a new proposal.

So today I came in at lunch hand I was researching a different game to start and after looking the entire period I found snake which I thought would be a good game to start, since it isn't very difficult to start basics and won't be hard to find variations that I can add. I couldn't find a tutorial for GameMaker, however I thought that I could just start on Scratch instead, since then I can also work on it at home, (since I won't have enough time in class).

Today I just edited with the code of my snake game and then I edited the skins a bit. No you tube videos were needed during this class as well as no help... Everything went very smoothly.

Today I worked on my project at home but stopped because I got tired. Again everything went pretty smoothly, the only thing I struggled with was
