Game Design Skills
In the following four short paragraphs I will go over what skills I believe I would be best at and one skill I struggle with. I will also be explain my reasoning behind why I believe I would be good/bad at these specific skills.
The first skill I believe I would be good at is Economics. I understand the economy fairly well and I believe that I could create an entertaining and useful fictional economy that would make sense. I talk a lot about the economy and bank systems with my parents, because I am interested in how they work. I think these skills, and my understanding in this topic would help me with building a game economy. For example, if the game I was creating was a virtual reality type game, I could include banks and interest system with loans and credit/debit systems. I believe that would make a game way more complex, therefore more interesting and fun to play.
When I was younger I used to play "sims" a ton, I used to edit the city platform and create new building all around town which served as different community centers. I believe that another skill I would be good at would be architecture. Building a virtual town/city would be very exciting for me, because I love planning out roads and designing buildings to create a city. Since I did it all the time when I was younger, I believe I would be great at it since I have previous interest in creating something like that and I also have some experience in designing cities.
When I was in media class last year we created sounds using a software called foley. I found it very interesting that I could scrunch up a piece of paper and make it believable in my video that there was thunder. Sound design would be a very interesting part of game design for me, and I believe I would really enjoy it and excel the more I practiced. It is true what they say "hearing is believing". A video game without sounds is just boring, for example a horror video game; without the sound, the fear factor is taken away along with the point of playing.
The most difficult skill for me would definitely be the creative writing part of creating a video game. I am very bad at coming up with ideas to create a plot. In English class my biggest struggle when we are given writing assignments is coming up with something interesting and creative to write about. My mind is good at designing new structures and buildings, however I definitely lack in the "designing" side of coming up with a story.
